Send your reviews!

August, 2007. I am starting a new career. Starting from now on, I will have to become very selective about which TVB series I will watch. When do I update Tvbsquare website. How will I organize the polls. I don't want to give the fan site up, after years of growth, Tvbsquare is on the right track. The forum is very active, and the fans love to check out the pictures and reviews on the main site. However, I will need more of your help. I will no longer have time to write lots of reviews, that's why I am asking you to send your reviews to me. I believe by all of us working together, we can keep Tvbsquare website alive.

Please send your reviews to me at tvbsquare@gmail.com

My Dicey Vacation

My Dicey Vaction - get ready to take off.

Yeah, vacation, I finally get a chance to take some time off and enjoy a nice vacation. This time, I am going to Las Vegas, of course, this is why I am calling my trip the "Dicey Vacation". Starting tomorrow, I will be spending a week of time in Vegas and Grand Canyon.

After watching "Dicey Business", I felt like my life is out of luck, and I can just gain some luck back by visiting Vegas. This is actually the fourth time I am visiting Vegas. The first time, I was under 18, trust me, there is no fun going to Vegas under 18. Second time, I was under 21, I remembered I went there just to see the Backstreet Boys in concert, I still can not check in the hotel by myself, so I had to drag my parent with me. The third time, I was over 21, and I had a great time in Vegas, but only spent one night. This time, I am way over 21, and I will have too much fun because I will be spending 4 nights in Vegas!

Besides Vegas, I added the Grand Canyon trip into my itinerary. The new Grand Canyon SKywalk is going to be the number one place I want to visit before I die. The Skywalk is the first-ever cantilever shaped glass walkway to suspend more than 4,000 feet above the canyon’s floor and extend 70 feet from the canyon’s rim. Now, I am so glad I am not afraid of heights!

Everyday is a TVB day

Most of the time, I get very bored while driving in the traffic. Today, I was waiting for a red traffic light to turn green, and the light would not turn, I was waiting and waiting, slowly, I became impatient, and started to beep the car in front of me. All the sudden, I realized the licence plate of the car in front of me has the word "TVB" in it! I was so surprised and so happy. It took me a good five seconds to realize that I have to take a picture! So, I took out my cell phone and took a nice picture of the car.

After taking the picture, the light still would not turn green, so I took another picture by using the zoom feature, this time, you can see the licence plate really clear ;-) (See below, I have blocked part of the licence number, because I don't want to get into trouble by posting a licence plate in public.)

I was enjoying taking the picture of the car in front of me, after a while, the light finally turned green. I was so satisfied, and realized the light did not turn because I need time to take a good picture of the TVB car! Hey.. everyday is just a typical TVB day, isn't it?

Love TVB, Obsess Tvbsquare

Today is Tvbsquare's 5th birthday! I remember five years ago, I was still sending out e-newsletters to my friendly user group. Now, I have a website that attracts multi-million visitors. It is hard to recap what Tvbsquare has become over the years, but I like to thank all the fans who make this website possible...

1. Year of 2002, the sitebuilder age: Tvbsquare was first built on Tripod, using the Tripod sitebuilder. Without any HTML skills, I was able to build a fan community together.
2. Year of 2003/2004, the HTML savy: I became obsessed with HTML and Photoshop skills. Tvbsquare was transformed into a interactive website.
3. Year of 2005/2006, the image and art: the artistic skills became more and more attractive to the fans. With all the graphic designers' help, Tvbsquare became a cool looking website.
4. Year of 2007, the voices of fans: we found lots of fans "fighting" at the polls in Tvbsquare. With the controversy poll results, Tvbsquare became a center of diverse opinions.

My BOL Script - Episode 8

The art of bad acting from Kate Tsui

Kate is in Kenneth's room, she looks confused. Kate touches different objects in her room, she was thinking about her brother. Suddenly, the door bell rings, Kate rushes out of the room, runs funny towards the door. She thought it was Steven, she yelled, "go away, go away!" She seems mad, then she opens the door, only found out it was Ron behind the door.

Kate's face changed, she calms down. Ron looks at her, "are you ok?" Kate looks at him, couldn't say anything. She wasn't sure how to react, her facial expression was boring.

Kate turns around, walks away from the door, she holds her arm, she suppose to be very sad, but she looks mad. Ron closes the door behind him, he says, "Kate, at this moment, you should find a friend to share your feelings, you will feel better."

Kate still holds her arm, all the sudden, out of no where, she turns around and hugs Ron. Ron was surprised by her action. The camera showed Kate's face. She has no tears, and she opens her mouth and yelled, "Ah!" Was that crying? Ron thought. Ron closes his eyes, only wishing he can close his ear too...

Acting & Directing Lesson 101:
1. If the actress can not cry, put some tear drops. Faking the crying scene can be very disturbing.
2. If the director wants to promote someone, try to find a right role. In this case, Kate is not the right actress for this role.
3. If the actress can not act, do not turn the camera on her for too long. In this case, when Kate was hugging Ron, the camera stopped on her for a good long second, we can see her poor acting so clearly, that results a bad scene.
4. To the camera man: DO NOT, and I repeat, DO NOT, give a big head shot if the actress can not act at all.

Oscar: The good & bad moments

Last night, I was watching Oscar with great excitement, however, the award night was a little bit too long. Let's share some good and bad moment of the Oscar night.

The Bad:
1. I felt bad that "Babel" only won one award, that's so sad. Maybe, the Academy is getting tired of this type of the movie. Last year, Crash already won the Best Picture, and this year, the Academy decided not to award the same style. But, winning one award is still so sad.

2. When "The Departed" won the first award, the stage announcer in the background (female voice) said, The Departed was the remake of the Japanese movie "Infernal Affairs". At that point, I WAS MAD, I yelled, "that's so wrong!" Then, the worst thing is, the guy who won the award DID NOT CORRECT the announcer! In fact, he did not even mention "Infernal Affairs". That totally destroys my night.

The Good:
1. I felt so happy for "Pan's Labyrinth", it won three awards out of its five nominations. The only pity is that it did not win best Foreign movie, but that's OK. I am very satisfied with the result.

2. The Shadow Dancers, they are amazing. This group of dancers form different shapes that represent certain movie. My favorite is "Snakes on the Plane", it was so funny and well done.

3. When Martin Scorsese won the Best Director, he FINALLY corrected the fact that "Infernal Affairs" is a Hong Kong movie. That just made my day, even though I didn't like "The Departed" that much. I was actually glad that Martin won this award, he was the only one corrected that error.

My Oscar Picks

It's this time of the year again! The Oscar is this weekend! I am very excited, of course, I will never miss this special night of the year. It is more exciting than TVB Anniversary show.. haha..

Why do I watch Oscar every year? I like to see what people are wearing, what people are saying when they win. Most importantly, I am a big movie bug.

Who do I pick this year? Well, let's see...

Best Actor: Not Leo, of course, I said too many times, he is too cute to win an Oscar. Will Smith is only OK, he still has room to improve. Peter O'Toole and Ryan Gosling are just running for fun. Forest Whitaker is the true winner.

Best Actress: If Helen Mirren didn't win, the Academy has a big problem. She is the only one deserves this award.

Best Supporting Actor: Eddie Murphy has the biggest chance this year, even though I liked Mark Wahlberg a lot.

Best Supporting Actress: Oh my gosh, I have so many choices. I am just not a big fan of American Idol. So, I am not going for "Dreamgirls", even though she has the most chances to win. I am voting for Adriana Barraza and Rinko Kikuchi in Babel. Personally, I prefer Adriana to win, because she was awesome in Babel.

Best Animated Film: I think Cars might win, but I haven't watch it yet, so no comment.

Best Art Direction: Pan's Labyrinth, I love this movie!

Best Cinematography: Again, Pan's Labyrinth.

Best Costume Design: I am going with the Chinese, Curse of the Golden Flower!

Best Direction: I don't like "The Departed", because it was way too bloody, Martin Scorsese is a great director, but I don't like the way he remake "Infernal Affairs". Martin will most likely to win, but I am still voting for Alejandro González Iñárritu, the director for Babel.

Best Film Editing: Babel

Best Foreign Movie: Pan's Labyrinth. I didn't watch the other ones, so this is the only movie I liked.

Best Make Up: Pan's Labyrinth

Best Picture: Babel

Best Sound Editing: Apocalypto (this is actually my favorite movie of the year)

I don't care about the other categories. I just hope Babel and Pan's Labyrinth can win a lot of awards this year.

ATV Series: Yi Wu Fan Gu

Currently, I am watching 義無反顧 (Yi Wu Fan Gu), it is an ATV series, produced in 2006, it was ATV's grand production last year. Yesterday, I watched 10 episodes of this series, and it turned out to be a great pleasure...

Storyline: This is like a combination of Secret of the Heart and Files of Justice. It focus on greed, family relationship, friendship, love relationship, and justice. How is justice balanced in everyone's heart? Does justice exist? If so, why do the villains continue to hurt people? Does morality exist? If so, why the innocent people continue to get hurt?

Cast: Patrick Tam and Amy Kwok, who are long time TVB stars, I like both of them very much. In this series, I especially like Amy's performances. Hawick Lau, who just signed the contract with ATV, I can tell you, he is playing the villain this time, and he will make every single person suffer. Also, Patricia Liu, I am a big fan of her, she signed with ATV last year. It seems like all the great actors go to ATV...

Thumbs down: There is on thing I don't like about ATV series, it tells you the ending at the beginning! In this series, there are no differences, in the first episode, it tells you who is the villain, who the villain killed, and how the villain killed them! This can easily make the audiences give up on the series in the very first episode, because we all know the ending!

Thumbs up: This is a VERY INTERESTING series! The first episode is slow, but it begins to grab my attention as I begin to learn the complicated relationships between the casts. From the second episode and on, everything just start to make sense to me. Each main character has a very interesting background, and their relationships build up logically. Because of this, the audiences can relate to the characters easily. Plus, all the court scenes are 100 times more exciting than the TVB court scenes. I think the overall script is 100 times better than the current TVB scripts..

TVBsquare 2006 Recap #2

TVB Square presents 2006 Recap

Part Two: The Unexpected
The Unexpected Good Series: Safe Guards. I didn't expect anything from this series at the beginning, mainly because of Elaine Yiu. Then, Steven and Wayne's powerful performances shines throughout the entire series, and that series becomes my favorite 2006 series.

The Unexpected Great Character: Power Chan - Lethal Weapons of Love and Passion. I wasn't a big fan of Power until I finished watching LWOLAP. Power builds great chemistry with almost everyone. Power is also a great actor, who can be serious, mean, evil, kind, and funny at times.

The Unexpected Hate Character: Christine Ng - CIB Files. Before I watched CIB, I felt really good about this series, the previews and the casts attracted me. However, the series was a disappointment, about 90% of the time, the series is about two women fighting with each other at work, and the main person we need to blame is Christine Ng. Her character was so unreasonable.

The Unexpected Not-Good Series: To Grow with Love. Other than The Biter Bitten, this is the worst modern series of 2006, I am really sorry about Myolie. Her effort in acting and supporting this series may not get any good returns.

The Unexpected TVB Moment: Kevin Cheng winning the Best Actor Award. I am not sure who else deserves this award, but I also think Kevin is not the best actor this year.

The Unexpected TVBsquare Moment:
I got a warning letter from TVB... err.. I still felt bad about it, because of the letter, I changed name to TVfansquare, I also changed the entire layout. I changed all TVB posters to fan creations.. what else does TVB want from me? Leave me alone! I am just a fan....

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! 2007 is finally here! I want to wish everyone a happy new year, don't forget to list out your new year resolutions, and see if you can make it throughout the year ;-)

My new year resolutions are:
1. Gain some weight, I am way too skinny, that's not so good.
2. Bicycling, I need to take time and bike more often.
3. Watch lesser TVB series, can't watch all 2007 series. I will have to be selective.

Speaking of TVB series, my most wanted watchlist of 2007 include:
The Drive of Life - the only problem is, the series might be too long, I am afraid it will drag. Other than that, this should be my most wanted series of the year.
Heart of Greed - the only preview for this series was in the 2007 sales presentation, and the plot is really interesting. This should be a great series to watch.
On the First Beat - I am not a big fan of The Academy, but I am a huge fan of Ron, that means, I can't miss this series.
The Brink of Law - Two of my favorite actor, Steven and Ron are both in this series, there is no way I will miss it.
The Master of Tai Chi - I have been waiting and waiting, it's almost a year now, this series got to release soon!

2006 Best TVB Scenes of the Year

2006 Best TVB Scenes of the Year

Collections of the best scenes of the year... The following are my favorite scenes (not in order) of the entire year ;-) *Note: I did not include the series I didn't watch: Dicey Business and Vagabond Vigilante.

Series: Glittering Days
Who: Susanna Kwan
What: Singing "Just live for you for a day, this is my wish..." in the recording studio. In the studio, Chris Lai (her son) is playing the guitar, she was singing in tears, and the others were there to support her. This is her last song before she lost her battle with cancer.

Series: Safe Guards
Who: Wayne Lai
What: Wayne gives a powerful speech about Steven, and he gives the Bureau keys to Steven and asks Steven to take control. This is actually my most favorite scene of the whole year, and it only last about 9 minutes.

Series: War and Destiny
Who: Ron Ng and Leila Tong
What: "If you jump, I jump!" This is the most common line, but it's also a great line. In this scene, Leila wants to jump off the building, but Ron stopped her and saved her life ;-)

Series: Dance of Passion, The
Who: Ada Choi
What: She takes her hair down, the wind blows her hair away, her hair touches Bowie's hand, Bowie walks towards Ada, he could not see, he could not hear. Gigi screams and asks why Ada wants to die for Bowie. Ada says: "I don't have any more strength to take care of anyone.."

Series: Dance of Passion, The
Who: Gigi Lai and Bowie Lam
What: Gigi is Bowie's ears, she is his eyes, she is willing to take care of Bowie without letting him know who she is.. When Bowie finally realized Gigi is the one took care of him, the two of them broke down to tears...

Series: Lethal Weapons of Love and Passion
Who: Raymond Lam and Charmaine Sheh
What: A force kiss on the brige, following Charmaine's slap on Raymond's face. What else do you expect?

Series: Men in Pain
Who: Ron Ng and Toby Leung
What: Toby reads the future diary Ron wrote to her, the diary talks about how their baby grow, how the baby first said "mom", how the baby walk for the first time... all the sweet moments, which makes Toby to stay in Hong Kong with Ron. I love the scene because of the future diary, also because of Ron's song in the background...

Series:La Femme Desperado
Who: Raymond Lam
What: This is one of the cutest scene in the series, which shows us Raymond, the ghost ;-)

Series:Under the Canopy of Love
Who: Bosco Wong
What: It's a pity that Bosco can never win Niki's heart. He sacrificed so much, mentally, physically, emotionally. It's sad that we will never know who is going to fix Bosco's broken heart...
