Rosy Business vs. Safe Guards

After watching Rosy Business, I can't help myself notice many similarities between this series and Safe Guards, since both series were the best series TVB made in years...

Sheren Tang vs. Steven Ma

Both are kind and smart, both are responsible for the big business, both holding the big keys to the big business. Both will get blamed whenever they do things. In Rosy Business, Sheren was able to hold the keys for a long time, but she had to fight to keep the keys. In Safe Guards, Steven did not get the keys until later time, but he fought his way to get those.

Wayne Lai vs. Wayne Lai

There are no similarities between these two characters. Wayne in Safe Guards is very useless, and lazy, he always make trouble, and expect others to clean his mess. He did not make much contributions other than give the keys to Steven. Wayne in Rosy Business is completely different, even though he also make lots of trouble, but Sheren is willing to help him because he was really smart, he is able to think something that no one else will ever think of. In Rosy Business, Wayne makes many great contributions and help Sheren to keep her keys.

Kwok Fung vs. Elliot Ngok

Both were dead. Both are the boss of a huge business, both has many sons. The only difference is Elliot has more wives. Both of them try to pass on their business to the next generation. Kwok Fung in Safe Guards always have hard time to decide who holds the key. But Elliot is more clear about who should hold the key. In other words, Elliot is smarter in this case, but he has way too many wives who like to twist his words and actions.

Ben Wong vs. Pierre Ngo

Both have the potential to become the next key holder, but both were not successful obtaining the keys. Both have affairs with other woman, both became bad when they lost the power. However, Pierre was more evil in this case.

The Letter vs. The Letter

Two different characters played by the same actress, Kara Hui. They both know how to fight, but Kara in Rosy Business was a little more afraid of everything, she learned how to be brave slowly. Both characters died in the series. Both of them left a letter to their love ones which will make the audience cry like CRAZY! In Safe Guards, Kara left the letter for her husband, saying how much she loves him, how much she dislikes him in certain ways... In Rosy Business, Kara left the letter for Ron and Sheren, telling them not to be sad, Kara also mentioned how much she enjoy to watch Ron grow... Both letters were so sad, which will cost you lots of tissues.

There are some other similarities in these two series, for example, the famous quote from Steven Ma in Safe Guards "Promote some, demote some, kill (fire) some" was also used in Rosy Business by Pierre Ngo....

By the way, both series were produced by the same producer, no wonder you can find so many things you will be attached to...

A lonely Birthday

It has been a while that tvbsquare.com celebrate it's birthdays. I remember way back then, I always have some kind of competitions during the birthday time, but lately, I haven't been doing any contests to remind everyone the birth date of tvbsquare. I guess I like the not-so-busy-and-quiet birthday for the website. Well, this year marks the 7th year of tvbsquare.com, maybe we do need a big celebration when the 10th year is coming along. So, let's wait and see...

Anyways, happy birthday to tvbsquare.com, we survived this long, unblieveable!

A Decade of TVB Series: 1998 - 2008 (5)

The Family Productions

The Year: 2007
Keyword: Heart of Greed

In the recent years, TVB started to focus on producing more and more series that talks about the entire family and its struggles. Many grand productions are tied with the family stories.

The Classic Series: The Brink of Law
Forgettable Series: The Slicing Of The Demon
Rising Star: Fala Chen - Heart of Greed

Coming Back Stars: Louisa Lee Si Kei - Heart of Greed

The Year: 2008
Keyword: Bad Economics

Economics had a huge impact in 2008, less and less viewers are watching TV, ratings were not nearly as good as before. It seems like no matter whom TVB brought back, he or she may not save the ratings. Not only that, TVB also fired many workers because of the economics.

The Classic Series: Moonlight Resonance
Forgettable Series: When Easterly Showers Fall On The Sunny West
Rising Star: Kate Tsui - Moonlight Resonance
Most Surprising Act: Michelle Yim - Moonlight Resonance
Coming Back Star: Gallen Lo

Politics

The Year: 2005
Keyword: Liza Wong vs. Kenix Kwok

Rising Star: Niki Chow - The Gentle Crackdown
Most Surprising Act: Angela Tong - Life Made Simple

The Year: 2006
Keyword: Charmaine Sheh vs. Kevin Cheng

In 2008, we heard lots of rumors about Charmaine Sheh and Kevin Cheng, but did you know TVB is actually "planning" this way back in 2006? In 2006, Charmaine and Kevin won the Best Actress and Best Actor awards, is that the plot that triggers their rumors today? Again, politics...

The Classic Series: Safe Guards
Forgettable Series: Vagabond Vigilante
Rising Star: Linda Chung - Forensic Heroes
Most Surprising Act: Ada Choi - The Dance of Passion
Coming Back Star: Ada Choi

A Decade of TVB Series: 1998 - 2008 (3)

The Rise of the New Generation

The Year: 2002

This is the year marks the true beginning of the new generation. We saw Myolie Wu shinning in Doomed to Oblivion, Michelle Yip and Raymond Lam taking the main roles almost everywhere. Coming Back Star: Deric Wan - Golden Faith
Leaving Star: Felix Wong left TVB with many disappointments and started to film more movies.

The Year: 2003

A Decade of TVB Series: 1998 - 2008 (2)

Into the New Millennium

The Year: 2000
Keyword: Louis Koo

The new millennium starts with the continue success of "At the Threshold of an Era" series. TVB made a successful transition from the old era to a new era with many great series, including War of Gender, Reaching Out, Moonlight, Armed Reaction 2, etc.

The Classic Series: War of Gender
Forgettable Series: Lost In Love
Rising Star: Michelle Yip - Reaching Out
Most Surprising Act: Louis Koo - At the Threshold of an Era 2
Forgotten Star: Lee San San, she never picked up a great role in TVB series, as a result, she failed to capitalize on her popularity in the entertainment industry.

The Year: 2001
Keyword: 9-11

The world is in its tragic shape, but TVB is getting ready for a new era, some of the important starts decided to leave us, however, TVB has no worries, there is always a new generation waiting to be born.

The Classic Series: Gods of Honour
Forgettable Series: Broadcast Life
Rising Stars: Raymond Lam - A Step Into the Past
Most Suprising Act: Benny Chan - Gods of Honour
Forgotten Star: Gordon Lam, after filming Country Spirit, TVB seems to forget about his importance, Gordon left TVB quietly, and joined the film industry.
Leaving Star: Louis Koo, after filming A Step Into the Past, Louis left TVB to step into the film industry.

A Decade of TVB Series: 1998 - 2008 (1)

Before the New Millennium

In the past 10 years, there are a lot of ups and downs in TVB series. Each year, there are some returning stars and some were leaving TVB. Some stars were rising to shine, some were slowly forgotten..

Here is my countdown of the past decade of TVB Series, I hope you enjoy as I am counting down the most important decade, or perhaps the most interesting decade of TVB series.

The Year: 1998
Keyword: Healing Hands

TVB starts to make popular series that dealing with our everyday jobs. Like the doctors in Healing Hands, the firefighters in Burning Flame, etc.

The Classic Series: Secret of the Heart
Forgettable Series: Rural Hero
Rising Star: Louis Koo - Burning Flame
Most Surprising Act: Nick Cheung - Secret of the Heart
Forgotten Star: Jackie Liu, for some reason, his sereis became more and more forgettable, such as Dark Tales 2, Rural Hero, Side Beat, etc, etc.

The Year: 1999
Keyword: Detective Investigation Files IV

Louis Koo became the most popular star in TVB, along with Gallen Lo, the two of them were in a major TVB production: At the Threshold of an Era, which considered as THE series of the new millennium.

The Classic Series: Witness to Prosecution
Forgettable Series: Side Beat
Rising Star: Charmaine Sheh - DIF 4
Most Surprising Act: Sunny Chan - At the Threshold of an Era
Forgotten Star: Monica Chan, her character became less and less valuable in a TVB series, that explains the fact that she is no longer filming with TVB.

The Gem of Life - Ada Choi's Wardrobe

There are 82 episodes of The Gem of Life, and I figured I will get bored at watching this series if I watch it all at once. So I decided to watch the series slowly, this way I can enjoy it much more. Last week, I started watching the series, and I "restrict" myself to watch only 1 episode a day, so far, I am at episode 7, and I found myself loving the series and its characters. Well, I can't say too many good things about the series yet, because a long series like this will begin to drag pretty soon.

After watching the first few episodes, I got addicted capturing Ado Choi's scenes, and noticed she got so many outfits. In fact, she has 15 different outfits in the first 7 episodes, that is about 2.1 outfits per episode, if this rate continues, she will have about 172 outfits in 82 episodes, that will be totally shocking. Well, not mention that she has about 160+ pairs of shoes in her wardrobe! Anyways, I started to collect all Ada's outfits in this show, we will see if she will have that many outfits or not at the end...

First of all, let us take a look at her shoes, I counted them, there are 160 pairs of shoes! She said she has to buy at least one pair every season, so that number will only get bigger!

Ada in black outfits: for some reason, she looks hot in black!

White or mix with white:

Red (this is my favorite so far, hope to see her more in red later):

Wayne Lai: His Past to Present + my top 10

Picture sources: http://www.laiyiucheung.com

1986, Wayne's career started as playing "the extras" in TVB series. His characters' names included "Ah Ha", "Ah Xia", "Big D", etc, etc. Slowly, Wayne gained more and more parts in the TVB series. Starting by playing the famous Zhou BoTong in various TVB series:

1992 Rage And Passion

1993 The Condor Heroes Return

1994 The Legend of the Condor Heroes

1995 The Return of the Condor Heroes

After that, Wayne started to play the major supporting roles. In 1996, his Zhu Bajie (the pig) in "Journey to the West" made Wayne a super "supporting star".

12 years passed, Wayne played various supporting roles that out-shine the main characters, and finally, in 2008, he got his first Supporting Actor award. Not only that, he is now becoming a leading actor in a new series, "Pages Of Treasures".

I became a big Wayne fan ever since "Journey to the West", and I am very happy about Wayne's career boost. Looking back at Wayne's acting career, here is my Top 10 Most Favorite Wayne Characters.

10. Steps - Lee Lik Keung
This is actually the first series Wayne started to be a lead.

09. Moonlight Resonance - Nin Chi Yung
It is a pity that Wayne only appeared in the first couple episodes in this series. I really love his relationship with Hor Ma and her family.

08. Devil's Disciples - Tung Fong Mo Kik
The funny and caring master of Bosco.

07. The Gentle Crackdown II - Dai Tsung Man
This is the series made Wayne the Best Supporting Actor. He plays two characters here (twins), one is corrupted, the other is an honest and intelligent man.

06. Greed Mask - Au Man Wai
This character always creeps me out because of his (her) identity, but I just can't stop thinking about it. He (she) is one of the most creepy TVB character you will never forget.

05. The Gentle Crackdown - Si Kei Wong
Of course, I like the first Gentle Crackdown much more. Si Kei Wong is also very intelligent (compare to Dai Tsung Man), and he is more fun to watch.

04. The Return of the Condor Heroes - Zhou BoTong
Till this day, I still can't find another person that can top Wayne's version of Zhou BoTong.

03. The Pig - Journey to the West
Wayne did an awesome job to show the pig's laziness and his power of love, I especially love his "thousand love affairs".

02. The Conqueror's Story - Hon Shun
One of the smartest person in early Chinese history, and Wayne is a perfect fit for this character. It is a pity to see how his intelligence can also kill him at the end.

01. Safe Guards - Sheung Chung
His character is useless, a true trouble maker, however, you just can not stop loving him because of the way he supports Steven Ma...

The Past vs. The Present

Anita Yuen
From Miss Photogenic in 1990 to her recent comeback series "Love Exchange", Anita has changed a lot. She was no longer a teenager pageant, she is now a wife and a mom.

Idy Chan
1983, the Return of Condor Heroes made Idy the best Xiaolongnu. Till this day, no other woman on earth can top that role. Today, she is in her comeback series "Catch Me Now". It has been more than 25 years, of course, she aged a bit...

Margie Tsang
I was not able to recognize her in her comeback series "D.I.E.", she has changed A LOT! She was the girl with lots of gossip in the past, including the romantic past with Tony Leung. Now, she is a single mother.

Teresa Mo
Ever since I watched Tong Leung's "Duke of Mount Deer", I began to notice her. She was really cute in that series. Today, I saw her again in "Off Pedder", she still looks the same, with a little bit of aging, but I really like her look right now.

Sheren Tang
In the past, she was cute, now, she is pretty. She still has the same look from the past to present.

Michelle Yim
In fact, she has not changed a bit! I don't know how she does it. She looks the same 20 years ago! It seems she hasn't aged at all.

Kathy Chow
Recently, I was watching "Legend of Condor Heroes" (mainland version with Hu Ge), and I saw her in it. I actually missed her a lot, I remember I grew up watching her performances, and I am really glad she is back to film more TV series.

Maggie Siu
From Tony Leung's "Heavenly Sword and Dragon Sabre" to today, Maggie has came a long way, she grew with TVB, you can't really notice her aging, because you always see her in different series or movies throughout the years.

Kiki Sheung
If I don't search her on google, I can't remember her younger look at all. Today, Kiki always play the housewife role. But, did you know she used to play the most pretty role in the ancient series 20 years ago?

An Anniversary with No Surprises

Finally, this is the anniversary I have been waiting for a long time. There are no surprises about the winners, everyone deserves to get what they got....

The Winner List:
Best Actor: Ha Yu - Moonlight Resonance
The new TV King, which happen to be the oldest one...

Best Actress: Michelle Yim - Moonlight Resonance
After working with TVB for so many years, she still look the same! I am so happy for her, she came a long way to win this, but she totally deserve it!

Best Supporting Actor: Wayne Lai - The Gentle Crackdown 2
Finally! I knew he could win this one! TVB is heavily promoting Wayne right now, that is an awesome thing, because he is an awesome actor! However, he should win this award two years ago with Safe Guard, oh well, it's better late than never.

Best Supporting Actress: Tavia Yeung - Moonlight Resonance
I still thought Tavia suppose to be the main character in Moonlight Resonance, I even thought Tavia had more screen time than Michelle Yim in that series. I guess TVB nominated her as supporting role for reasons: she is in this category to win it! Well, I am very happy for her, she has come a long way as well...

Most Favorite Male Character: Raymond Lam - Moonlight Resonance
Surprise! Haha, just kidding!

Most Favorite Female Character: Louise Lee Si Kei - Moonlight Resonance
Do I need to say more? No surprise here at all.

Most Improved Actor: Wong Cho Lam
This award is more interesting than anything else, I never thought Wong Cho Lam can win it, but I am happy for him.

Most Improved Actress: Nancy Wu
YEAH!!!!!!!!!!! I found my happiest moment when Nancy won this award! She totally deserve it, and TVB is finally recognize her as a good actress. TVB needs to give her more important roles from now on, she is awesome!

Best Drama: Moonlight Resonance
Boring! No surprise at all!!!

Career Award: Paul Chun

Cold Blood Part 3

A cold blooded guy can actually become a valuable constable, not only he can work with the others, he also helps the four unite as one...

The Past Revealed
The Emperor asked Ron to perform in front of the people from the Jin country. The Jin people recognized Ron as an assassin. Ron's past were revealed, he ran away, all the sudden, he became a fugitive.

Hurting Dominic
Growing up in the forest, Ron never trusts no one other than himself. When Dominic promised Ron that he will help him, Ron did not trust him, instead, Ron hurts him with the sword. At that moment, Ron realized he made a mistake, but at that point, there is no turning back.

"I am sorry!"
After Ron ran away, he went back to his "home". Raymond, Kenneth and Sammul came to find him. Raymond asks why Ron has to hurt Dominic. Ron said, "I am sorry!" This is the first time he said that word, but he really meant it.

Ron vs. Dominic
To save Ron, Dominic asked the Emperor to give Ron a chance to prove his ability. Dominic was willing to risk his life to help Ron. From that moment on, Ron was willing to do anything for Dominic...

Ron and his girl
Ron hides his feelings really well towards his girl, he never thought he would like her, but even he is in love with her, he never admits. A cold blooded guy just don't deserve a moment of happiness. Ron never told his girl about his feelings. Even when she wanted to become a nun, Ron still did nothing other than letting her go...

Cold Blood Part 2

His name is cold blood, but deep down inside he has a warm heart.

The Dog vs. Ron
Ron saved a dog, helping the dog heal, that shows Ron's warm emotions, he still cares about the living things around him. However, when his aunt died, Ron also killed the dog, because the dog was too old. This also shows Ron's cold-blooded emotions about the living things around him...

Working with Sammul
Ron has the best chemistry with Sammul in this series. They always work together to solve the cases. The first time they work together is the village case, this is also the first time Ron began to learn to become a partner.

True Identity
Ron discovered his true identity in the village, he found out he has an aunt. We learned Ron's past, his childhood, and why he grew up with the wolves.

Tears
Ron's aunt's death made Ron cry, this was the first time he felt he has a relative, but his relative died too soon. Cold Blood is not cold blooded after all...

"The safest time is when your enemy die before you, this is why I can survive until now."
It hurts me when I see Ron's scars, he has a mysteries past, and he hides his emotions very well.
Not only he is not afraid of being hurt, he also hides his feelings towards his girl. As the audiences, we only see Ron's cold-blooded emotions, but deep down inside, he has a warm heart...

Twin of Brothers
Ron and Raymond don't have many scenes together in this series, which was a pity. I missed their chemistry in "Twin of Brothers". In this series, the only time Ron and Raymond worked closely together was when they were trapped in an island. Raymond lost his wheelchair, Ron carried him almost everywhere... This shows how much Ron cares about his partners.

Four as One
The first time you can see all four constables willing to sacrifice themselves to help each other was when Selena Li was in trouble. Kenneth gave up his constable position to help Selena, and then you see Sammul, Raymond and Ron also gave up everything to help Kenneth...

The Leaves
This is my favorite scene in the entire series, the four constables got punished to do housework, finally they had time to relax, so they all sit in the green grass. The wind was blowing, the leaves were falling down from the trees. Sammul, Kenneth and Raymond began to blow leaves to each other, and then the leaves flew to Ron. Ron blew it too! This scene was really cute ;-)

"Thank you!"
The first time Ron said than you was in episode 14, when Sammul's mom treat the constables some noodles. This is when Ron finally felt the importance of family, and he began to appreciate and accept everything.
