My BOL Script - Episode 8

The art of bad acting from Kate Tsui

Kate is in Kenneth's room, she looks confused. Kate touches different objects in her room, she was thinking about her brother. Suddenly, the door bell rings, Kate rushes out of the room, runs funny towards the door. She thought it was Steven, she yelled, "go away, go away!" She seems mad, then she opens the door, only found out it was Ron behind the door.

Kate's face changed, she calms down. Ron looks at her, "are you ok?" Kate looks at him, couldn't say anything. She wasn't sure how to react, her facial expression was boring.

Kate turns around, walks away from the door, she holds her arm, she suppose to be very sad, but she looks mad. Ron closes the door behind him, he says, "Kate, at this moment, you should find a friend to share your feelings, you will feel better."

Kate still holds her arm, all the sudden, out of no where, she turns around and hugs Ron. Ron was surprised by her action. The camera showed Kate's face. She has no tears, and she opens her mouth and yelled, "Ah!" Was that crying? Ron thought. Ron closes his eyes, only wishing he can close his ear too...

Acting & Directing Lesson 101:
1. If the actress can not cry, put some tear drops. Faking the crying scene can be very disturbing.
2. If the director wants to promote someone, try to find a right role. In this case, Kate is not the right actress for this role.
3. If the actress can not act, do not turn the camera on her for too long. In this case, when Kate was hugging Ron, the camera stopped on her for a good long second, we can see her poor acting so clearly, that results a bad scene.
4. To the camera man: DO NOT, and I repeat, DO NOT, give a big head shot if the actress can not act at all.

Oscar: The good & bad moments

Last night, I was watching Oscar with great excitement, however, the award night was a little bit too long. Let's share some good and bad moment of the Oscar night.

The Bad:
1. I felt bad that "Babel" only won one award, that's so sad. Maybe, the Academy is getting tired of this type of the movie. Last year, Crash already won the Best Picture, and this year, the Academy decided not to award the same style. But, winning one award is still so sad.

2. When "The Departed" won the first award, the stage announcer in the background (female voice) said, The Departed was the remake of the Japanese movie "Infernal Affairs". At that point, I WAS MAD, I yelled, "that's so wrong!" Then, the worst thing is, the guy who won the award DID NOT CORRECT the announcer! In fact, he did not even mention "Infernal Affairs". That totally destroys my night.

The Good:
1. I felt so happy for "Pan's Labyrinth", it won three awards out of its five nominations. The only pity is that it did not win best Foreign movie, but that's OK. I am very satisfied with the result.

2. The Shadow Dancers, they are amazing. This group of dancers form different shapes that represent certain movie. My favorite is "Snakes on the Plane", it was so funny and well done.

3. When Martin Scorsese won the Best Director, he FINALLY corrected the fact that "Infernal Affairs" is a Hong Kong movie. That just made my day, even though I didn't like "The Departed" that much. I was actually glad that Martin won this award, he was the only one corrected that error.

My Oscar Picks

It's this time of the year again! The Oscar is this weekend! I am very excited, of course, I will never miss this special night of the year. It is more exciting than TVB Anniversary show.. haha..

Why do I watch Oscar every year? I like to see what people are wearing, what people are saying when they win. Most importantly, I am a big movie bug.

Who do I pick this year? Well, let's see...

Best Actor: Not Leo, of course, I said too many times, he is too cute to win an Oscar. Will Smith is only OK, he still has room to improve. Peter O'Toole and Ryan Gosling are just running for fun. Forest Whitaker is the true winner.

Best Actress: If Helen Mirren didn't win, the Academy has a big problem. She is the only one deserves this award.

Best Supporting Actor: Eddie Murphy has the biggest chance this year, even though I liked Mark Wahlberg a lot.

Best Supporting Actress: Oh my gosh, I have so many choices. I am just not a big fan of American Idol. So, I am not going for "Dreamgirls", even though she has the most chances to win. I am voting for Adriana Barraza and Rinko Kikuchi in Babel. Personally, I prefer Adriana to win, because she was awesome in Babel.

Best Animated Film: I think Cars might win, but I haven't watch it yet, so no comment.

Best Art Direction: Pan's Labyrinth, I love this movie!

Best Cinematography: Again, Pan's Labyrinth.

Best Costume Design: I am going with the Chinese, Curse of the Golden Flower!

Best Direction: I don't like "The Departed", because it was way too bloody, Martin Scorsese is a great director, but I don't like the way he remake "Infernal Affairs". Martin will most likely to win, but I am still voting for Alejandro González Iñárritu, the director for Babel.

Best Film Editing: Babel

Best Foreign Movie: Pan's Labyrinth. I didn't watch the other ones, so this is the only movie I liked.

Best Make Up: Pan's Labyrinth

Best Picture: Babel

Best Sound Editing: Apocalypto (this is actually my favorite movie of the year)

I don't care about the other categories. I just hope Babel and Pan's Labyrinth can win a lot of awards this year.
