After people calling me "tvbsquare" for more than 4 years, it's hard to change people's mind and tell them, I changed my name!

Perhaps, you can never forget the name tvbsquare, but for my protection, or your safety, I have changed my domain name to TV Fansquare, without the "b", add the "fan". Easy enough to remember? You can still call me tvbsquare if you wish, TVB can't force people to stop calling my old name. Plus, I add a slogan to my "new" site: I am a fan, not a "bee". If you don't like it, get use to it.

So, the new site is in progress, and the domain transfer will be done soon. If you type in http://www.tvfansquare.com in your browser, you can still find me. The Errors in Forensic Heroes

If you haven't figure out who "killed" Bobby's wife yet, don't read this part. Or at least you should be at episode 7.

The case: Bobby's wife was poisoned to death
The suspect: A lady that has no knowledge what-so-ever
What happened: This lady, she is so ignorant. She keeps giving Bobby's wife some medicine without knowing what's in the medicine. As a result, she poisoned Bobby's wife to death...

Error 1: This lady gave the medicine to Bobby's wife for 10 days. That finally killed Bobby's wife. However, Bobby's wife already has a cancer at the point, and her body was so weak. How can you survive from a poison for 10 days?



Error 2: This lady accidentally drink one drop of the poison. Just one single drop, she passed out and stayed in hospital for days. How can one single drop of the poison harm her so much? Bobby's wife still has 10 days of chance.. If the poison is that strong, then Bobby's wife should not survive this long...

The Errors in Forensic Heroes

If you haven't figure out who killed the three family members in the first case, please do not read this post. I recommend you to watch it first, at least till episode 3.

The case: three family members murdered.
The suspect: Ka Nin Ngo
What happened: Ka Nin killed his family members, and then sticks a knife in the middle of the bookshelf, and then he tries to hurt himself so that no one knows he killed his family. However, when he tried to hurt himself, he slipped; as a result, he hurt himself so badly that he almost died. After he hurt himself, he still has the strength to clean the weapon, and put it back to the kitchen table.

Error 1: Look at the picture below, the knife is at a 90 degree angle. After Ka Nin slipped, he hurt himself so bad, how did he manage to get the knife out?



Error 2: If he managed to get it out, his blood will be everywhere (on the bookshelf, on the floor, on his cloths). If he hurt himself that bad, he can not even stand and walk around. How did he manage to clean the knife and put it back to the kitchen table without leaving any blood?!

New Updates - June 24

Facing the computer screen, editing the updates in a Saturday afternoon, this is a habbit of mine for more than four years. I do hope my habit can continue, otherwise I have to find something else to do in Saturday afternoons...

Anyways, "thanks" to TVB's warning letter, I can't update my index page anymore. So, I will post all the web updates here at the blog. Finally, I began to appreciate the world of blogging, you can post anything and still be save...

First of all, I do not recommend you to watch Au Revoir Shanghai, sorry to say that to all the Bosco fans. It's very likely, this series will remain as a warehouse series. It's not a good production, and it doesn't have a storyline what-so-ever. I felt surprised about why Michael Miu even accept to play his role at this series. The script was poorly written, and all the settings and tools are so fake...

Chinese Poetic of the Moment

As far as I know, Tvbsquare never had the chance to put on hiatus for a while. Now, after four and half years, I am finally getting ready to rebuild and remodel the entire site, without all the "sensitive" information from TVB. At the same time, here is the secret pathway: Everything are still there, just the main page looks different ;-)

Why on hiatus:
According to the legal department of TVB, I suppose to get rid of all images by this week. Seriously, I don't have the time, so I just put up a banner, which states I am on hiatus. This way, they can't bother me.

1. From now on, TVB Square will be known as Tvbsquare, to make people "less confuse", I will have everything combined. That will take me at least a week.

Au Revoir Shanghai

Week of June 19: Au Revoir Shanghai

This is a story happens in Shanghai, however, I think 100% of the series is filmed in the TVB City, located in Hong Kong, because the setting looks fake:


One of the main setting in the series, looks like it's "photoshoped".

Other than the fake setting, I found one family bond really interesting, the family consists of three members: Shirley Yeung, Michael Miu and Sonija Kwok.



In the series, Michael and Sonija are husband and wife, Shirley plays their DAUGHTER. Last time I check, Sonija is Miss Hong Kong 1999, Shirley is Miss Hong Kong 2001. How come in this series, they are playing mother and daughter? The good thing is that Sonija's character passed away early in the series, otherwise, we will see a scene where Shirley has to call Sonija, mother. That will really scare me....

My Mid-Year Series Story

Dear audiences of TVB:

Welcome to the House, everyone! Inside here, I will like to do some analysis over half of 2006. During this half year, how many TVB series have you watched? How many TVB series have you given up? How much more or less do you love TVB? Whatever you see and feel inside my house, keep it here!!! We don't want too much trouble in the world outside.

Now, let's meet some family members in the house. First, we have couple Safe Guards outside the house, who will be protecting us, and guarding the house, just in case any of you are trying to escape. Second, we also have the Bar Benders, who will take you to the court if you are breaking the house rules. Sounds scary? NO!!! All these are for security purposes.

OK, come in to the house, you will see a few La Femme Desperado (meaning desperate women), who will bother you to have conversations in French and Spanish. So, pay attention to what they said, you will learn a LOT! After talking to them, you can come to the big movie room, lots people are in there, but don't felt strange when you see all the Men in Pain, they are just laughing so hard that their stomach hurts! If you think they must had a stomach virus, you can report this issue to the Forensic Heroes, they will do some chemical test on the food and drinks those men ate. Inside the movie room, everyone was watching The Biter Bitten, but they have no clues about the story or the title. At this time, you can choose to ignore this place, and come to upstairs with me!

Lots of people are playing chess games upstairs, there are plenty of rooms as well. In room A, you will meet a couple, who will teach you how to play Chinese chess game. This couple is very friendly; their room has a very unique wallpaper, looks like sky. Once you are in the room, you will feel that you are Under the Canopy of Love, that's a cool room to stay in and play some chess game, while everyone outside is learning Dance of Passion skills. Don't try to force youself to learn those dancing steps, because the steps can be slow and confusing. There is another room, which you might want to go in, because it collects all the Lethal Weapons of Love and Passion. Wooo, weapons! Sounds dangerous, but actually, those weapons can show you how to make a Mongolian King into a lifetime lover! Go ahead and try it, but the process can be boring.

After you got tired of looking around the house, you can take a little nap at any of the bedrooms. Inside one of the bedroom, there is a pillow case of mystery; it's a magic pillow, which will make you even sleepier. Go ahead and try it. O, I forgot to mention that, one of the ladies in the house will also teach you how to trim people's hair. Learn from her, maybe someday, you will have a Trimming Success!

OK, time to go now, have I mentioned that one of the safe guard's name is Shanghai? Make sure you say goodbye to him before you leave the house: Au Revoir Shanghai! See you next time at the house party!

The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift

The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift

I had a chance to see an advanced screening of: The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift last night. So, I decided to write my first movie review. After writing TV series reviews for so many years, I thought this can be a good change for me. If I abondon TVB someday, I have some other options ;-)

The Fast and the Furious, part 1 was awesome, part 2 was stupid, and part 3, the Tokyo Drift was better than I expected.

The Movie:
Director Justin Lin did a pretty good job this time, selecting a great location to film the fastest sequences of action films. I thought Tokyo is a great place to film this movie, however, in reality, there is no way you can drive a car up to 200km per hour in a Tokyo city street, but the movie did it any way. The city race was very cool, but as I said, not very true in real life. Towards the end of the movie, there was the mountain race, which is much more realistic.

The Story:
As all the other car race movies, there is no much story. Tokyo Drift is the same way, you can say, it has a lame story. The main character Lucas Black just tried to avoid trouble, moved to Tokyo, tried to get a gangster's girlfriend, that was pretty much all the story tells.

The Action:
Brilliant! I love the car racing sequences, especially the drifting part. Watching the drifting sequences on big screen, with the loud noises surrounding you. I felt like I am actually in the movie, watching car races. However, after the movie, I found out that it's not really possible to drift over 120km per hour. Usually, you can only drift under 80km per hour. So, the action, what can I say? Kinda fake? Anyways, I didn't care the facts too much. All I know was that I enjoyed the action sequences very much. Plus, I love all the cars ever though I was not a big car lover, but for some reason, I just felt obsessed about the cars in this movie. (The picture below is my favorite one!)



The Korean/Japanese Factor:
I understand why the director cast lots of KOREAN guys to play JAPANESE guys. Maybe, Korean actors act a little better, they show emotions better. However, I don't understand why the director force the Korean actors speaking Japanese!!!! According to my Japanese friend, who saw the movie with me, she said, "I don't know why the Koreans need to speak Japanese! They don't know how to pronounce Japanese." Well, I don't know too much about this factor, but she told me, they mis-pronounced every single word! Wooo, that's just amazing. I am wondering how this movie will do in Japan... I guss it's ok to have the Korean actors playing Japanses characters, but there is no need to speak Japanese in the movie, they can just speak English, because it's an English movie, duh!

The High Tech in Japan
Tokyo, Japan, that is the whole reason I wanted to see the movie, just to see the city before I want to go there. Watching the movie is like taking a short tour of Tokyo. The number 1 thing that attracted me was the High Tech stuff. In the movie, at the mountain racing scene, there are many groups of Japanese people, using their cell phone to video stream the entire car race. Wooo... when can we have those cool phones in the US? Perhaps years later? If anyone said that America has the latest technology, you can just laugh at that person...

The Acting:
Action movies means no acting, I don't want to say much. But, I want to give double thumbs up to little Bow Wow, he is so cute, and not little anymore. I enjoyed his character very much. Also, I want to mention, Sung Kang, an amazing actor, and of course, he is Korean. For some reason, I thought he is really cute, especially when he drives. Bad acting award goes to Nathalie Kelley, I don't know what's wrong with her eyes, she keeps looking at something and thinking something else.



Worth Watching?
If you are a car fan, YES. If you are a Fast and the Furious fan, after getting disappointed at the sequel, you will like this one. Plus, the ending will totally shock you, and make you laugh. For the rest of us, you can give a try, watching the movie on big screen is like taking a ride. It's an awesome experience, just don't expect any story...

Men in Pain - I also have the pressure

You have the pressure, I also have the pressure. When a man begins to feel pressure, you better leave him alone. Otherwise, more problems can be created. In a man's heart, there are just too many problems unsolved.

No Face:
Men concern about saving their face the most, if you don't give him what he wants, he will make you mad, make you feel sorry, make you yelling at him. When there are more people in public, men love to save their faces even more. Don't argue with a man in public, and test his theory, because he holds the truth, even if it's unresonable.

No Career:
The woman likes the man who has the desire to be better. The desire equals high position in the company, high position equals good money, good money means good life. Every woman loves to enjoy her life, especially enjoy the particular life they can get from her man. No career means poor, in a society like this, poor people and criminals are the same type of person, no one will look up to you.

No Wealth:
The female does not need to have lots of money, but if a man doesn't have any money, he is a dead man. A man needs to supply the house, the car, and his wife, everything is about money. To raise a child, it takes hundred millions of money (speaking in terms of HK dollar). To compensate a wife, you need thoudsand millions of money. If you have a lot of money, your wife can be pretty, and you will be happy. If you don't have money, your wife can be pretty, and you will be worry.

This is why, women thinks: coffee, chocolate, men: some things are just better rich.

No Second Half:
From the youngers to the olders, everyone is looking for their second half. Men were born to discover their second half. They going through many troubles to look for the second half. Luckily, the women are doing the same thing...

Therefore, women thinks men are like Blenders: You need One, but you're not quite sure why. However, not many good men are still "available", because men are like Parking Spots: All the good ones are taken, the rest are handicapped.

All about faith:
Sometimes, the man wants something fresh. After being with the same woman for so long, he wants someone new. He will think, why other people's girlfriend/wife is prettier than mine? How come my girlfriend/wife is not as good as the others? All these can test a man's faith.

So, the women will think men are like Bananas: The older they get, the less firm they are.

The Wrong Career Path:
The woman afraids to marry to a wrong man, the man affraids to go into a wrong career. If a man going into a career does not fit him, it will feel like going into a prison. The woman, in the other hand, can become a housewife, and leave everything to the man. The man needs to face all types of working pressures, such as the bad employer, the stupid coworkers....

TVB Game Show: 15/16

15/16 is a brand new TVB game show, which tests the participants' wisdom. The show also adds some psychological factors to make the participants swing their answers.

Each time, a very hard question will be asked, the participants were given two answers, they have to choose one answer and stick with it, or swing their answer.

I only watched one episode of 15/16, it happened to be Ron's episode, and of course, I was in love with the game show, and learned so much from it.

The paper game:
You have to agree that Ron is a comedian, in any game show, Ron will make the most fun out of it. In this particular game, Ron suppose to keep the paper on his neck while the other participant broke the other side of the paper.

Woo, that's at least a 42 degree! You can measure it youself. Ron won this game, because of his ability to twist his waist, that's a dancer's gift.

The hard questions:
As I watch the game show, I have no idea about the answers to any of those questions. You have to know a lot about Hong Kong culture, background, language, history and some other medical or social issues in order to know some of the answers. For example, a hard question can be: Inside the Velvet, which part is very useful. The choice include: the top part or the bottom part.

Anticipating: Pain of a Man

"You have the pressure, I also have the pressure." This is the tagline from the new and upcoming series "Pain of Being a Man" (unofficial English name). It seems like Hong Kong people are facing lots of pressure, from woman to man, as the audiences, we will experience them all. In this new series, the story is to focus on the pain of being a man in different levels of today's society. Ron Ng represents the younger generation, Damian Lau represents the middle-age generation, and Woo Fung represents the older generation.

In the series, every man has his own pressure, which is hard to solve, but each of them has his own way to reduced the pressure....

Kinds of pressure: young marriage, low income, family problem, mid-age crisis, problems at work, power struggle, boring lifestyle, etc, etc.

Words from the producer: "Pain of Being a Man" and "La Femme Desperado" were produced by the same producer Poon Ga Dak. Mr. Poon says, "at the same time I am filming La Femme Desperado, I was thinking about this series. However, In Pain of Being a Man, I will use the comedy style to discuss some bold points...

Anticipates:
1. Ron and Damian's relationship
2. A comedy series that will make me laugh.
3. Ron as a father
4. Ron's street dancing skills
5. Damian and Louisa' chemistry
6. Any scenes without Toby (I still can't get over the fact that Toby is the main character here!)

Destination Finals

For every TVB star, his or her goal is to win an award or two at the annual Anniversary show. For every Hollywood star, his or her goal is to win an Oscar or two at the annual Academy Awards. For every Basketball player, the goal is to play in the NBA, and advanced to the biggest stage of all, the NBA Finals.

My team, the Dallas Mavericks, is on their way to achieve the biggest goal of all, a championship. I don't know if they can make it or not, but within the next couple weeks, I will be cheering for them no matter what. Perhaps, I will give up watching couple TVB series, perhaps, I will talk about the Mavericks more than TVB series. Perhaps, my blog will turn into a Basketball Blog, perhaps, the TVB Square will turin into Mavericks Square.. Just kidding!!!!

New Series Filming - Myolie and Andy

New series filming, after Myolie gained so many pounds. The series is called "Fei Tin Hei See", which is an adaptation of "Bridget Jones Diary". Again, TVB is out of its own story ideas, and trying to adopt some ideas from American movies.



The return of Andy Hui: I am very surprise to learn the fact that he is willing to film a series with TVB. I think he is an amazing singer, but in terms of acting, I am holding my doubts.

The "fat" Myolie": Wooooooo.... I didn't know that was her! Just kidding, of course I recognized her. I have to praise about her, and how hard she is trying to gain her weight to film this series. However, at the same time, I am worrying about her weight issue. Gainning and loosing weight are two different thing... It's not that easy...

Chapter Two
"The Formula Tree" - TVB's Deadly Disease

There are the stars, there are the producers. The stars are responsible to act, the producers are responsible to make the story for the stars to act. When you hear the following lines, what was your first thought?

“Don’t worry about me, you go first.”
“Go, please go, I don’t want to see you ever again!”
“I thought I will never see you again my life!”
“I always treat you as a sister.”
“We are only friends.”
……

In TVB series, there are repetitive lines and scenes. In the recent series, "Under the Canopy of Love", at the beginning, there was a rich guy who uses the theme from "Revolving Doors of Vengeance" to ask a girl to marry him. This type of proposal wins the girl's heart, however, almost made the audiences felt asleep.

TVB likes to remember its classic scenes, and re-use them in number of occasions. It's a disease. "When a person continues to remember the past, he is very old." When a person is old, he gets disease easily. This is what we called, the TVB disease.


Classic Disease 1: The Repetitive Scenes
Symptom: All the same scenes, watch the beginning to predict the ending

In the recent years, TVB scripts are getting more and more similar. The producers start to over-use the old scenes. It is very easy to come up the following formula, which will always show in a TVB series. For example:
1. The main actor and actress will always pass by each other without noticing one another.
2. Someone will always get someone else drunk.
3. If two people are talking, there is a third person listening, that third person might not hear the whole conversation, and always hear the bad conversation. All misunderstandings started out this way.
4. The poor family's kids will always support each other, the rich family's kids will always fight against each other.

Cause of disease analysis: Assembly line production, no improvements, it's like a fast food restaurant, over using the same recipe.

A television production is the bridge between the producers and the audiences. Today, if we see a similar scene in a series, we can easily predict the ending. What the producers need to do is to think a different option to attract the audiences. As for TVB, the company's goal is to attract majority Hong Kong audiences in order to become the major player. Every year, TVB needs to produce 20-30 series in order to fill the screen time. Therefore, an assembly line production exists. The producers can run out of ideas sometimes, plus, TVB does not have high standards for the quality of its series. The goal is speed filming, which becomes a deadly disease.

Summary of the disease: Usually, a story has its beginning, the peak and the ending, everything can go right from the beginning to the peak, but soon after, the whole story can become poor. That's why we all see poor endings of TVB series, however, the managers of TVB tend to ignore this issue...


Classic Disease 2: Strange Storyline
Symptom: The logic is chaotic, the stories don't make sense.

In "Triumph in the Skies", Francis Ng and Flora Chan's relationship struggled for nearly 20 episodes. Towards the end, both of them went on a trip, they had a kiss, then realized both of them are not in love with each other. Does everything happen that quickly? There is no such thing in the real life. Are the producers trying to trick us?

In "Just Love", there are misunderstandings between Sunny Chan and Jessica Hsuan, one after another. Adding the third factor, who keeps destroy Sunny and Jessica's relationship. However, in the very last episode, Sunny said one thing to Selena (the third factor), "I never loved you once." All the sudden, Selena understood everything, and happy ending occurred.

The producers are trying their best to make the series interesting, so they will add many struggles to the story. All the struggles were built perfectly, but towards the end, the producers would not able to solve their own mess. This is another deadly disease for TVB. In a lot of series, we start to question the producers about their ability to make a good ending, or cleaning their own mess.

Cause of disease analysis: if we say TVB never improves, that might be a little harsh. Just think about the number of series TVB needs to produce every year, it is hard to make a series that outlast forever. During the same time, TVB needs to make some grand productions, including the annual Anniversary series. It is easy to realize that TVB producers are out of ideas. To avoid the problem, the producers will make some story situations really complicated. “War and Beauty” is a classic example. It was not easy to "figure out" each concubine, what type of strategy each concubine will use, what kind of result she will have. The whole series kept the audiences guessing, even the ending, no one can ever predict an ending like that. This type of story, complicated enough to keep the audiences guessing, becomes an instant hit. However, it is really hard to keep the audiences interested throughout the years.

Classic Disease 3: Change of Personality
Symptom: Some characters will change their attitude, believes all the sudden.

In a corrupted society, people will face all sorts of judgments. Once a while, a person’s view and attitude can be changed, once a while, a person can accidentally kill someone else. From then on, that person will forget about his or her human nature. For example, Raymond Lam in “A Step Into the Past”, Sonija Kwok in “Where the Legend Begins”, Selena Li in “Just Love”. Their changes were all the sudden, if you were happen to miss one episode, you will not understand the reason they turned evil.

Cause of disease analysis: there is a theory about the human nature, a person’s believes and values are developed throughout the years. It’s not easy to change one’s personality. The TVB producers can not make some lame excuse to change a good character into an evil monster. However, there were good examples, such as Sunny Chan’s character in “ATE”. TVB producers did an excellent job to create Sunny’s struggle life; he lost jobs, friends and family. He experienced all the tragic and hardship. Finally, Sunny lost his believes, and became a true villain. The whole turning point was well developed throughout the series, and this is why we are still praising about Sunny’s character today. But, how often can TVB build such a strong villain character? Not that often...
