TVBsquare's New File Sharing Server!

It's great to be TVBsquare! Ever since I posted a little comment about my Download Server problems, I got strings of emails and recommendations from various fans, who introduced me to many different File Sharing Servers. I don't remember how many download servers I have switched, but every single server has decided to give up on me, because my Download section is over popular. However, thanks to all the recommendations I got from the fans, I was able to find a brand new file sharing host (called FileFront), who can finally handle me!

In the upcoming days, I will move all my files to the brand new server. Trust me, I have a lot of files. I am now able to dig out some of my older collections of themevideos, and share with the fans. This is going to be great ;-)

March 2006 Power Ranking

TVB Square's Power Rankings refers to the TVB stars, series or any other TVB related things that grabbed the most attention, and gained the most power within a particular month.

Check out the Archives here.

#5: Everyone is getting married - I read a horoscope book that says 2006 is a great year to get married! It truly is, not only everyone around me is ringing wedding bells; the Hong Kong celebrities are also announcing marriage deal one after another.

#4: Benny Chan - what a great comeback he had! TVB released all his new series within a month. The air ratings were also great for both series. Not many TVB stars can come back and still be successful after filming series in Mainland for so long. Benny is special ;-)

#3: Angela Tong and her number one position in 2006 Next TV Award - I was very surprised to learn the fact that Angela grabbed the number 1 position in this award, she topped Jessica, Myolie, Kenix and Charmaine. I believe this is the first time; a supporting role grabbed the most attention in Next TV Award.

#2: The Air Ratings in General - my theory: March is a great month to air TVB series! Pretty much all the series averaged great air ratings. Including: Pillow Case, Canopy, Biter Bitten and Safe Guard. Can this trend still going on in April? We will see...

#1: Bosco Wong - first of all, he grabbed the number 3 position in Next TV Award, so congrats. I believe he has topped Raymond and Ron's popularity by winning that. Second, he is filming one series after another, without much sleep or break. Because of him, TVB is known for "a torture machine". Third, his character in Canopy is grabbing everyone's attention. I predict that he will win something because of this role.

Under the Canopy, you have my love

---- TVB Square's lover letter ----
*inspired by the articles in kuangaitvb.com

Dear Bosco/Ah Lik:

From the first moment you appeared in episode 2, I begin to love you. I love the way you showed Kevin your big body. I love the way you called Kevin. It's funny that he mistook you as a gay, but that's ok, you still treat him as a big brother.

I know you love your father, you see him as your role model. However, he lied to you in many different ways. It's a sad thing to know your love one betrayed you. But, that's ok, he still loves you.

I know you are struggling with your love life; people are always mistaken you as being "stupid". But, you are not stupid; you just have a simple mind. For that, I love you. Niki's sister doesn't deserve you, she only values love as money. Such person like that shouldn't hurt your feelings. Niki doesn't deserve you, she only loves Kevin. There is no room in her heart, that can squeeze you in.

It's true that love is a selfish thing. Once in a while, there is nothing wrong to be selfish yourself. Love is also a sacrifice; there is nothing wrong to sacrifice yourself in order to make others happy. That's what you did, and that earns my love.

To me, you are a guardian angel; you are the one brought Niki and Kevin happily ever after. Under the Canopy, you might be alone, but you still have me, who truly loves you...

Yours,

TVBsquare

New series filming: Pearl of the Orient

New series filming, old news: "Pearl of the Orient" starring Roger, Charmain and Liza. The last time I saw Roger and Charmaine together was: An Herbalist's Affair, it's great to see them pair again. Again, this is a period drama. TVB is getting little hyper about filming period drama, one after another, hehe, fits my mood, because I love period drama...

Recap... recap

TVB Square's 101 Must Watch Countdown
I have made an archieve page for all my 101 Must Watch series, all in one page, so it's easier for you guys to look up.
http://tvbsquare.com/blog/2006tvbsquare101.htm

Doing this countdown was very fun, but I also realized many things:
1. I am watching too many series
2. I am not watching enough series (especially for the productions in the 80s and early 90s)

TVB Square's 101 Must Watch Countdown cont.

TVB Square presents 101 Must Watch Countdown:
The last countdown = Number One Must Watch TVB Series for All

Note: Thanks for counting down all 101 series with me, it's a great ride, and a great time to share all my favorite series with you guys. If I miss any great series, 99.9% of the chance is because I didn't watch those, sorry....

OK, here goes my number 1, if you know me long enough, you should know this one already. Still, the one and only Burning Flame, ends up at my number one spot ;-)

Must-Watch Themevideo:
Download it at:
http://box.net/public/tvbsquare/files/640611.html

Must-Watch Opening and Ending:
One of the best opening of TVB series, straight forward, and introduces the main characters in very different ways. It's very easy to step into the characters' shoes from the very beginning.
The ending is also perfect, after so many struggles and problems, we still see a happy reunion and an ending you will remember.

Must-Look Poster:

Must-Watch Transformation:
Cheung Keng Kei: A lazy person with no responsibility, who has a dream to be a famous singer. Because of friends, he became a fire fighter, however, only found out he doesn't do his job well. Because of his boss, he was stuck between right and wrong. Because of his wife, he decided to end his life...
Lee Chi Hong: A good firefighter with lots of responsibilities, who has all the fame and knowledge. Because of love, he became jealous. Because of his brother, he became useless. Because of his family, he became crazy. Because of his job, he became a criminal...

Must-Know Quote
"What should we do as brothers (best friends)?"
"Has this life, no upcoming life, make great sacrfices."

Must-Learn Encouragement (don't try this youself, I just thought this is a sweet encouragement between Wong Hei and Ester)
Draw a happy face on a wall.

Must-Learn Lessons
The episodes in the beginning, about the training, and how to be a fireman, very educational and fun to watch.

Must-Remember Love Chemistry
Louis Koo and Jade Leung - one of the best couple who did not end up together

Must Watch Performances
Every single tear of Wong Hei, which will make you cry as well.

Most-Memeriable Scenes (Major Spoilers Alert)
1. By the sea, Wong Hei's mother passed away because of a deadly disease.
2. By the mountain, in the mud, Jade's final words to Louis, "I really love you, I never betray you... I really want to marry you, I really want to have a kid with you.... Don't give up on me, marry me..."
3. By the fire scene, the fire fighter yells at Wong Hei, "I don't want to die!"
4. By the building, raining, Wong Hei and Chin Ka Lok looking at their best friend's dead body.

Must-Listen Joke from Cheung Keng Kei (Minor Spoilers Alert)
This is the perfect joke from him, which talks about his story, and why he decided to end his life:
Once, there was a negotiation expert, he was very talented. One day, he met a guy who wants to suicide.
The negotiator says, "the world is beautiful, why do you want to give up your life? People says your wife is very pretty."
The suicidal says, "so what? She is gone."
The negotiator says, "that's ok, woman is like cloth, you still have a son."
The
suicidal says, "the son is not mine."
The negotiator says, "that's ok, you still have a lot of money."
The
suicidal says, "I have money, but the money is gone, my wife took them all."
The negotiator says, "money is nothing, you still have lots of good friends."
The
suicidal says, "Those best friends, they are not friends anymore. We broke apart."
The negotiator says, "that's ok, you still have a job."
The
suicidal says, "that work is illegal, both police and gangsters are looking for me."
The negotiator says, "sorry, you better jump from the building, you are useless if you don't die."

Must-Rewatch Series:
One of the biggest reason I name "Burning Flame" as my favorite series of all time is because of the fact I watched it many times, and every time I rewatch it, I learned something different...

TVB Square's 101 Must Watch Countdown cont.

TVB Square presents 101 Must Watch Countdown:
The countdown will last 2 more days.
This can be helpful in terms of what series you should rent or rewatch.
Timeline: 1980's to 2005
My rank in the top 11 will be very strict
Maybe, you already got an idea about my top 11, but here is why:

#11: Legend of the Condor Heroes 83 - Felix Wong, Barbara Yung
Felix + Barbara creates the best Jing Yong chemistry on screen, you can't deny it, this is THE BEST version of all time. The only reason this series didn't make into my top 10 is because I can't squeeze 11 series in top 10 list. So, you can consider this series as a tie.

#10: State of Divinity 96 - Jackie Liu, Fiona Leung
Most of the time, the remake is not as good as the original. However, for this series, it's the different way around. This story was my favorite Jing Yong story, the casts were amazing, the music was awesome (State of Divinity was about a song, and the background music in this version was THE BEST).

#09: Old Time Buddy - Francis Ng, Gallen Lo, Jessica Hsuan, Maggie Cheung
"A light comic memoir of the four hottest movies stars in the sixties through the nineties." The series has a great mixture of comedy, action, drama and romance.

#08: Detective Inventigation Files 4 - Louis Koo, Jessica Hsuan, Sunny Chan
Don't ask me why DIF 4 is my favorite DIF series, all I know was that, I was so obsessed with Louis that I wasn't able to live without watching him again and again in this series.

#07: Cold Blood Warm Heart - Chilam Cheung, Nadia Chan, Adam Cheung, Gallen Lo, Jessica Hsuan, Christine Ng
One of the best series with the biggest cast, which is also very popular. Till this day, I still think myself as a cold blood warm heart person. This series has influenced me in many ways.

#06: Greed of Men - Sean Lau, Vivian Chow, Amy Kwok, Adam Cheung
This is the most unique series, talks about the love and revenge between two generations, two families. The series also brought the stock market concept to live, and the evil Adam effect, which has a lot to do with the raise and fall of the stock market. The storyline was also the best, with the unforgettable opening and ending.

#05: Blood of Good and Evil - Deric Wan, Maggie Siu, Kitty Lai
Here goes my favorite Deric series of all time. The story focus on the relationship between a mafia family and a police family. The Chinese title of the series was also my favorite, it means, human supposed to born good. This fits the entire idea of the series very well.

#04: Duke of Mount Deer 85 - Tony Leung, Andy Lau
Tony brought the most classic Jing Yong character to live. No one else can ever top Tony and Andy's relationship in this one.

#03: Secret of the Heart - Sunny Chan, Amy Kwok, Felix Wong, Nick Cheung, Ada Choi, Gallen Lo, Kathy Chow
One of the most tortued moment of TVB history: watching the cute Nick Cheung turning purely evil. One of the most unforgettable moment of TVB history: watching Nick Cheung's room covered with ____'s blood. This is another classic series with a group of excellent stars. It used to be my most favorite series, the only reason I moved to number three is because of the way the series ends.

#02: On the Edge - Francis Ng, Deric Wan, Michael Tao, Sheren Tong
TVB makes bad endings in the new millenium. TVB makes good endings in the 90s. TVB makes great endings in the 80s. As for today, I still knock my head and say this loud, TVB makes THE BEST ending for "On the Edge"! This is why I listed this series at the number two spot, because the ending just makes the big difference. Other than the ending itself, this storyline was also one of the most emotional storyline of all time. However, not many of you watched the series, it's a pity, the series didn't get enough attention. You need to watch this series without knowing too much details, you will thank me for this. The ending is just unforgettable...

The countdown will last 3 more days. We are in the top 21now ;-)
This can be helpful in terms of what series you should rent or rewatch.
Timeline: 1980's to 2005
The rank in the top 20 will be more strict (base on my personal opinion ;-)

#21: Yesterday's Glitter - Damian Lau, Liza Wong
I am gonna start my top 21 must see countdown with a very old series, this is a 1980 production, one of the oldest TVB series I ever watched. It's a great period drama with a tragic ending. The story is about rich and poor, family and society, love and forgiveness. All these elements are the must-have elements of all great period dramas...

#20: Demi Gods and Semi Devils 97 - Felix Wong, Benny Chan
#19: Triumph in the Skies - Francis Ng, Joe Ma, Flora Chan, Myolie Wu, Ron Ng
#18: Journey to the West - Dicky Cheung, Waynei Lai, Kong Wah

#17: Moonlight (Return of the Cuckoo) - Chilam Cheung, Charmaine Sheh I was converted into a Charmaine fan because of this series. Also, Chilan's sign language skill was the best of the best.

#16: At the Threshold of an Era (part 1 and 2) - Gallen Lo, Sunny Chan, Roger Kwok, Louis Koo, Kenix Kwok, Ada Choi
#15: Square Pegs - Roger Kwok, Jessica Hsuan
#14: Detective Inventigation Files - Michael Tao, Keinx Kwok
#13: Plain Love 2 - Gordon Lam, Maggie Cheung

#12: Looking Back in Anger - Felix Wong, Deric Wan
This series was out way back in the late 80s, it turned out to be one of the best TVB series of all time, and a series no TVB fan can skip...

#26: A Step Into the Past - Louis Koo, Jessica Hsuan, Sonija Kwok
#25: Gods of Honor - Benny Chan, Chin Ka Lok

#24: Yang's Saga - Tony Leung, Andy Lau, Chow Yun Fat, Liza Wong
I always love the stories of the Yang family, and I think I have watched all the series related to the Yang generations. However, this one was still my favorite, even though it's only 5 episodes long. All the great actors and actress of TVB are in here ;-)

#23: War of the Genders - Dodo Cheung, Dayo Wong
One of my biggest fear is bugs, however, watching a cockroach playing as a "major" character in this series was actually an enjoyment. This is one of the best comedy TVB ever made, consider the fact that it's also the highest air rating series of all time.

#22: Police Cadet (part 1 and 2) - Tong Leung, Maggie Chung
Police Cadet has three parts, however, the first two parts are the most classic ones, they are the best police drama of all time, not to mention great casts and awesome plot.

Who Bites Bitter?

The Bitter Bitten, starring Benny Chan, Linda Chung, Michael Tong, Shirley Yeung will air after "Under The Canopy of Love". It's a story about a circus.

Originally, there was a sales promotion clip about the circus type series in 2004, starring Wong Hei and Bernice Liu. However, that sales promotion was never get to become a series. And now, TVB changed the storyline, changed the cast, but still taking the circus idea to the Bitter Bitten. They even remake the sales promotion clip, and from the clip, I realized this series is suppose to be a suspense, which can turn out to be very interesting. Plus, my beloved Benny Chan is back with the modern series (haven't see the modern Benny for a while now, I kinda miss that ;-)

What am I looking forward to?
1. What does "Bitter Bitten" has to do with the circus?

2. What is the meaning of "Bitter Bitten", who bite, why bitter?
3. The suspence, mystery in a circus
4. The
Michael + Shirley kiss, I saw that in the promotion clip ;-)
5. The Benny, Shirley and Linda chemistry

TVB Square Timeline

TVB Square is getting ready to celebrate the upcoming birthday ;-) I am turning 4 years old, and I am so glad to see the fans are growing with me as well ;-)

Just to give you an idea about how much TVB Square grew, let's look at the timeline:
The day I was born: March 27, 2002
The day when my hit counter hits the half million mark: December 2, 2004
The day when my hit counter hits the million mark: September 23, 2005
The day when my hit counter passed the 1.5 million mark: March 13, 2006

Some thoughts: it took me more than 2 years to get the first half-a-million, that was a long journey. But, after that, TVB Square is growing faster and faster. I am very happy to get my 1.5 million mark before the 4th birthday, that means I can get 2 million mark anytime soon now ;-)

Thanks to all the die-hard fans who supported TVB Square ;-)

New Series Filming: Gamble

New series filming, featuring Bobby, Jessica, Bosco, Tavia and Michael. This is for their upcoming Gamble series. Looking at the pictures below, I cracked up and surprised to find Bosco.

Sexy symbol: Tavia Yeung
She was wearing D Cup (whatever that means, I am not very sure, all I know is that, she looks sexy, because her role is suppose to be sexy).

Crazy Hair: Jessica Hsuan
Jessica plays a crazy woman who loves to gamble, but her role is also very kind. Her crazy hair looks very funny to me.

Extreme "Nerd" Make-Over: Bosco Wong
The first time I saw the picture, I did not know that was him. The second time I was trying to figure out who that was. The third time, after reading the production note, I realized that's Bosco.

Stomach Problem: Bobby Au Yeung
Bobby wears the fake stomach, that was really funny when I first saw the picture. I wanted to touch it so bad...

Beauty and the "Beast": To me, Bosco looks like a lion. I can't wait to see the chemistry between Tavia and him. Boscovia, this is the way I like to call them.

Bobby+Jessica+Bosco+Tavia: What kind of Gamble series is this? I can't wait to watch it, but they just began filming, it suppose to be a long wait, lol...

I am Back!

I haven't been online for 5 days! This is my newest "out-of-touch" record! Where was I? Orlando Disney's World, the happiest celebration on earth, that's the new tagline I learned this week, which is Disney's tagline for their 50 years' anniversary. During this week (my spring break vacation), I went to all Disney themeparks, which includes: Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, MGM Studion, Epcot and one of the water parks.

All five days, I was out of touch of internet usage, I was riding bus and walking instead of driving, I wasn't watching cable TV, I wasn't using the expensive shampoo, I wasn't eating rice and noodles. I still survived, it's amazing! But, I will never eat anymore junk food for the rest of the year, including turkey legs!

Anyways, my favorite themepark is got to be the Magic Kingdom, that's the best, if you ever go to Disney, that is the themepark you can not miss. The rides, the fireworks and the parade will take your breathe away! My Favorite ride for adults is the Rock n Roller Coaster at the MGM, that roller coaster is in complete darkness, it's totally cool and totally fast. My Favorite ride for kids is the Mad Tea Party at the Magic Kingdom. This is the first time I ever had a tea cup ride, it made me dizzy for days, lol. My favorite show is the Festival of the Lion King at the Animal Kingdom, it's a great musicial, which reminds me of the greatest animation movie on earth. My favorite view is the World Showcase at Epcot, feels like walking around the world in just seconds. Epcot features many different countries' attractions. All 5 days, I had so much fun going to all the themeparks, and I was able to conquer my "fear-of-roller-coaster" feeling... (Please blame "Final Destination 3", the movie)

Now I am back with the real world, the vacation was great and magical. By the way, I am so happy my favorite movie "Crash" won the best picture, haha, it was a big surprise to me, and I just felt like saying it in my blog even though Oscar award was over "ages" ago.

TVB "Os-quare" Award

The Oscar (Academy Awards) will air this weekend, so I thought I might just have some fun making my own "Os-quare award" show. (Don't pronounce as O, square; pronounce as os-square, like Oscar, but replace "car" with "square")

Best Writing (adopted screenplay): State of Divinity, the 96 version, which is very close to the original novel, and the best screenplay TVB ever adopted (without changing too much information)

Best Writing (original screenplay): Secret of the Heart, perfect characters with perfect twists, plus a perfect story.

Best Visual Effects: Twin of Brothers, this is about the best special effects TVB can do, but TVB can also improve on this, just don't copy the old tricks.

Best Sound Mixing - War and Beauty, which has one of the best soundtrack (and original)

Best Sound Editing - none, TVB likes to re-use sound over and over again, without changing too much.

Best Short Film (series) - The Threat of Love, part 1 and part 2. Each has 10 episodes, however, each episode has a different story. All perfect stories, short, but simple. Must watch for all TVB fans.

Best Music - Journey to the West, trust me, you will get addicted to the themesong, as well as the songs in the series. Very original and very unique.

Best Make Up - Journey to the West, for Waynei Lai's pig and Dicky Cheung's monkey.

Best Film Editing - Old Time Buddy, a great mix of film production and story line. One of the most classic TVB series you have to watch.

Best Documentary - The Conqueror's Story, even though TVB only followed 70% of the history, however, it was a great "documentary", which captured the history really well without making us falling asleep.

Best Director - the director of "Detective Investigation Files" series.

Best Costume Design - War and Beauty

Best Cinematography - Triumph in the Skies, TVB filmed this series in many different countries

Best Art Direction - Plain Love, this series is a piece of art, every scene, every emotional moment speaks out the words.

Best Animated Feature - none, will TVB consider an animation in the future? Of course not.

Best Actress in a Supporting Role: Joyce Tang in all Armed Reaction series.

Best Actor in a Supporting Role: Waynei Lai in all his series.

Best Actress in a Leading Role: Jessica Hsuan in DIF 4

Best Actor in a Leading Role: Tony Leung in Duke of Mount Deer

Best Picture (series): Burning Flame

* the above awards were base on my personal opinions only
