TVBsquare's Power Rankings - Feb. 2006
TVB Square's Power Rankings refers to the TVB stars, series or any other TVB related things that grabbed the most attention, and gained the most power within a particular month.
Archives: Nov. 2005, Dec. 2005, Jan. 2006 Power Rankings.
#5: Lethal Weapons of Love and Passion, the series ends as the lowest air rating of the year (so far), but it grabbed the most attention from the fans. I believe one the biggest reason behind the low rating is the major differences between the novel and the series.
#4: Bosco Wong, we can now "categorize" him as the next comedy king. You will know what I mean if you watched the first half of LWOLAP and the current "Under The Canopy of Love".
#3: Linda Chung, TVB is heavily promoting her, filming one series after another. It seems like she is in the news everywhere. I got a feeling that TVB is promoting her way too much, while ignore other talented stars...
#2: War and Beauty China Promotion, after more than a year, "War and Beauty" is still a HOT series. Currently, the entire casts and crew are promoting the series in Mainland, China. The promotion turned out to be a great success (I thought China promotion was much bigger than the HK one), you can see some pictures here (everyone looks so good).#1: A Pillow Case of Mystery, can you believe I haven't watch this series yet?! I am so behind, but I am going to catch up fast. The air ratings of this series were really high, thanks to Benny, Kenix, Bobby and Tavia. Their chemistry surely catched everyone's heart.
Welcome Back, Shing Ka Ying
In this year, we will see lots of great TVB stars coming back, including Steven Ma, Benny Chan, Ada Choi (later on), so many of them we haven't see for a while. One of them, being the youngest, Shing Ka Ying. The last time I saw her was in "Burning Flame 2", acting as Wong Hei's daughter, that's when she looked like this:
Now, you will see her again in "Under The Canopy of Love", she is now a big girl, still has that cute look. I felt like I am watching her grow just because I am watching too much television. Not a lot of child stars can grow up and still be success, but I will look forward to her bright future if she decides to stay with TVB. So, welcome back ;-)
New Series Filming: Gigi+Moses+Yoyo
New series filming: starring Gigi Lai, Moses Chan and Yoyo Mung. You can read more news about this series' Costume Fitting at here. Personally, I think Gigi looks nerdy in here, but I like the way she looks, and I am looking forward to see Moses and her together.
Power Weapon Bosco Wong
It's not easy to rank a TVB celebrity's popularity, you can not just add the amount of fans and the anti-fans to solve the equation. There are number of factors you have to look at:
Popularity base on acting skills? Bosco is a great actor, period. However, acting skills can be over-shadowed by many other factors, it's a reality in the entertainment world.
Popularity base on series? You know, sometimes, you will not see a series if so and so is not in the series. That is totally the case between Bosco and I. I won't watch "Wong Fei Hung", and I will never finish watching "War of In Laws" if Bosco was not in it. Bosco is those kind of TVB star, who will make major impacts in all of his series.
Popularity base on TVB ranking? It's true if TVB promotes you more, you will get more popular. I am glad Bosco is being heavily promoted, he needs to get to the next level sooner or later.
Popularity base on TVBsquare ranking? No, way, I don't have that kind of power. However, if I like so and so, you will see them everywhere in TVB Square. I admit I am biased, that's the definition of being a fan.
Popularity base on air ratings? TVB cares about the air ratings a lot, but I don't. To me, the impact of air ratings equal nothing. In Bosco's case, his "War of In Laws" can have the best air rating last year, and his "Lethal Weapons of Love and Passion" can have the worst air rating this year, all that means nothing to me, it only gives the advertisers more or less chances to spend money.
TVB Square's multi-million dollars trivia question: currently, TVB is airing 2 different Bosco series at 2 different time slots in the same night. This will go on for a week as LWOLAP and "Under the Canopy of Love" are both on TV (this means, HK audiences will see 2 Bosco in same night for the entire week). I am wondering when is the last time TVB ever release 2 series of the same person (in the leading role) at the same night? My guess is never, Bosco is the first case, however, if you do know the answer, please let me know, even though I do not have multi-million dollars to give away, but I really want to know. Remember, I am only talking about the leading roles, not the supporting roles.
vs.
Week of Feb. 20, 2006: TVB Jade Channel, 8:00PM vs. 10:00PM (HK time), catch two Bosco (at leading roles) at the two different time slots ;-)
Safe Guards: How Safe Can It Be?
In this month's schedule, a series called "Safe Guards" will be aired and released in overseas. The series is about a Bureau of some kind (you know in the ancient times, rich people wants to deliver something valuable to somewhere, they ask the Bureau to carry the things for them. In return, the Bureau will earn the "travel fee"). I believe we all know this, especially if you are a TVB fan, it's very common thing in the ancient times.

The series starring Steven Ma as the male lead, Elaine Yiu as the female lead. I was shocked when I learned about the casting decisions at first. I believe most of us are still in the "Elaine-hating-mood" by now. TVB is going a little too far by promoting her to a lead...
What am I looking forward to see?
1. Steven Ma's return, of course, I have been waiting for his return for SO LONG! He is finally back, welcome back!
2. Wayne Lai, his character, his story, and whoever he might pair with. I am going crazy about this guy, he is so talented. 3. How good can the air rating be? Will it be safe to air at this time of the year?
4. Steven and Elaine chemistry? This can either be the best or the worst chemistry of the years, why wouldn't I watch it?
Murder Weapon Ron Ng
Today, I finally got my Ron Ng CD - "Fast Forward", which shipped all the way from Hong Kong, with his autograph ;-) The album has 7 songs, I already heard 4 songs for thoudsand times already. But, I still bought the CD, not only to show my support, but also take my Ron obsession to the next level.
The pictures: A+
Ron is selling his looks in this album, I have to agree on that. The pictures are just too hot. If there is no CD come with it, I will still buy the album. However, with the CD, it's just perfect. There is a half-naked poster of him, which nearly killed me. To me, Ron is a murder weapon.

The Autograph: B+
OK, celebrities have strange ways to sign autographs. Maybe they don't want fans to read the autograph easily? Anyways, I was looking at the autographs, and I couldn't figure out what he signed. Was it Ron Ng or his Chinese name? I couldn't tell at all.

The Songs: B+I LOVE every single song in this album, it's a great mix of fast and slow songs. The CD opens up with a fast song, which has a great tone and a scream from a fan (I guess). The CD closes up with the signature song "Don't Blame Her", I won't get tired of that song even though I heard it too many times. Don't mistake Ron as a hottie who can't sing, you need to give him some credits here. I really think he did a great job of singing. A very much improved effort.
My favorite songs: "1+1=2", basically, it's the hottest song on the album, it's fast, it's unique, and it reminds me of Backstreet. "Spring Day", this will be always my favorite Ron song. It's so sweet and so beautiful. The way Ron takes it to the high note, it's just amazing.
Disney to the Rescue
TVBsquare needs a vacation! I decided to go to Orlando, FL in the upcoming Spring Break vacation (this will be my last spring break for my entire life, since I am graduating in May. So, I need a vacation before it's too late!) Of course, when you go to Orlando, you need to go to Disney, even though I am no longer a teen, I still reserved tickets to go there, I need to take a break, and try to stay "young" ;-)To the Orlando fans, if you see some stranger on the street that looks like TVB Square, that could be me ;-)
Am I the only one watching Winter Olympics?
I felt like I am the only one watching the winter olympics, because all my friends and co-workers have no idea what I am talking about during the lunch breaks. Yes, I am strange enough to talk about Winter Olympics during the lunch, but I only talk about it when some Asian counties win. The air ratings for Winter Olympics games were so low, I believe it is the lowest rating ever (blame on NBC, the only channel in the world, who doesn't broadcast any live events). You can try to prove me wrong, but I am glad something else has a much much lower rating then Lethal Weapons of Love and Passion (sorry, I am comparing apples and oranges).Anyways, if you are planning to watch the games tonight, a girl from China who will win a gold. So, watch it ;-)

What's going on around TVBsquare?
(this has nothing to do the valentines, I am just driving myself crazy...)
I can't believe I am using dial-ups for a whole week already! My DSL went down, but hopefully, it will back up this week. The dial-up thing is driving me insane, if I can't use my DSL back this week, I will end up at a hospital! The dial up connection is a physically, emotionally and mentally abuse! The worst thing is: I couldn't update too much on TVBsquare! I want my DSL back!!!!
February Watch List
Currently, I am watching "Lethal Weapons of Love and Passion", I am enjoying it very much. As for my upcoming watch list, there are A LOT:
"Under The Canopy of Love" (starring Bosco, Kevin and Niki) will release on Feb. 20 in Hong Kong, that's my must watch of the month. I will also watch "Vagabond Vigilante" because of Li Qian and Kenny Ho (I am a big fan of both). I remember I had an obsession on Kenny Ho for the longest time when I was like 8 years old (when Judge Bao was airing).
Other than the ones above, I will also try to get my hands on the following series, but I am willing to give them up, if I can't find my time to watch these: Seven Swordsmen: I want to watch this one because I hate the movie version (don't ask me why, I just hated, and I am glad there is a TV version), plus I am a big fan of Ada.
Magic Chef: This should be a must watch for me, starring Gallen, Francis, Dicky and Andy, it's about the chef story, and it suppose to be funny.
TVB's Huang Yi Trilogy
In the 80s and the 90s, TVB likes to make series base on Jing Yong novels. In the new millennium, TVB likes to follow Huang Yi's footsteps. After filming Huang Yi's novels "A Step Into the Past", "Twin of Brothers", and "Lethal Weapons of Love and Passion" into series, we found some interesting facts:1. Raymond is in all three series, if Raymond lives in the ancient times, he will be the most famous guy on earth.2. The guys will have MANY love affairs, even though TVB changes A LOT from the original novel, we can still see lots of love relationships in all three series.3. All three series are 40 episodes long or longer (TOB is 42, ASITP is 40, LWOLAP is 40).4. A lot of small characters appear in many episodes but disappear all the sudden. I found this in all three series, sometimes, I was thinking TVB forgot those small characters. 5. There are always some weapons/toolkit that will change the whole situation. For example: Louis' time machine, Ron and Raymond's kung fu bible, Raymond and Bosco's Cloud Ruling Sabre and Rain Ceasing Sword, etc, etc...6. All three series has something to do with politics, change of dynasty.7. All three series has war scenes.
Where did the Square come from?
A lot of TVB Square fans were asking me about the meaning of the word "square". So, I look up the dictionary, and got the following results:In my dictionary, TVB Square means TVB to the second power, it's a Mathematics term. So, TVB times TVB equals to TVB Square. In regular dictionary, Square (in math) means: the product obtained when a number or quantity is multiplied by itself, for example, 49 is the square of 7. So, TVB Square is the square of TVB. Square can also mean a plane figure having four equal sides. Well, I don't think that's me, so I am going to ignore this meaning for now.I also found a slang, Square (in slang) means a person who is regarded as dull, rigidly conventional, and out of touch with current trends. O woo.. I don't know if that's me, but I am out of touch with current NON-TVB trends. Did you know? (quiz)TVB Square has a tagline: square the entertainment, square the fun.Do you know when this tagline first established? At where?
New Productions
I got a string of emails asking me about the new grand production series called "Tai Chi" (太极), so I did a little research. This series will staring: Chiu Man-Cheuk (as the main actor), Myolie and Raymond. It is a TVB and Mainland production, which is currently on filming. It will be a grand production series, and hopefully to be released in time of Anniversary. At the beginning, Kenix Kwok was suppose to be in it, but for some reason, she didn't. That's about all I know so far, and I also found a picture of Myolie on filming:

Check out the Raymond on filming pictures provided by maggie @ the comment box, source from 52raymond.com

TVB Square Room
The following pictures are taken from my room, it's now a study room of mine. The posters you will see are totally mine, I will not give any of those away, I repeat, I WILL NOT GIVE THEM AWAY. So, go ahead and be jealoused.

As you can tell, I am a huge BSB fan, my room is full of BSB posters. Trust me, I have A LOT more Backstreet posters than TVB posters. I also have the one and only Triumph in the Skies poster, which you can not find else-where. Anyways, this is my study room, it's crazy, but I also can't live without it...
Lethal Weapon Raymond Lam
Today, I finally get my chances to begin "Lethal Weapons of Love and Passion"! Yes, I am very behind, because I was busy lately, trying to catch up with many other things that are not related to TVB. Today, after 5 episodes of LWOLAP, I am deeply in love with Raymond (even though his storyline is kinda boring, lol). I love the scene when he first showed up, when he does his leg split thing, I am telling you, not many guys can do this type of stunts.

I love he scene when he forced the kiss with Charmaine, that kiss is way too hot, followed with the powerful slap. I was watching it in slow motion to capture a good image. Haha, watching the slow motion forcing kiss is the best ;-)

I love the scene when he is crying, hugging the tree, with Charmaine watching. Not many guys can hug a tree, cry in front of a girl and drop two tears at the same time, way to go, Raymond!
Anyways, I don't know why this series has a low air rating, I liked it so far. If you are in Hong Kong, and if you are reading my blog, don't forget to watch TVB Jade Channel at 10:00 PM weekly, let's hope the air rating can be better ;-)
TVBsquare's Oscar Pick
I am little behind with the Oscar nominations, because of the fact I am not watching enough movies. However, after scanning through the nominations for this year, I felt like I can perdict all the winners. Take a look at the Best Pictures for an example, "Brokeback Mountain" is like THE sure win, because "Munich" sucks, "Good Night and Good Luck" is black and white, "Capote" is way too deep, and "Crash" is not good enough to win (eventhough I love "Crash" the most from all 5 nominations). Best Director will go to Ang Lee, if not, Hollywood is insane. Best Actor and Actress will likely to be the couple from "Walk the Line": Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon, at least, I am hoping to see those two win. If not, I will be little disappointed. Other predictions: King Kong needs to win something, I don't care which category. Narnia needs to win the make up, I can't believe the Narnia soundtrack is not even nominated, so disappointing.Site note: Zhang Zi Yi, "The Promise" and "Kung Fu Hustle" did NOT make into the nominations, thanks God! The next time when you hear so and so wanna make a movie and rush into the Oscar nominations, don't believe it!
TVB Posters Lookout
After browsing through so many fan creations and artworks, I started to think that the fans can make much better posters than TVB does! It's hard to find a good poster to look at these days, but I still have faith in the creative TVB poster-makers ;-)Current favorite poster (made by TVB): Vagabond Vigilante, this is a "joint" production with TVB and mainland stars, starring Sonija Kwok, Sunny Chan, Kenny Ho. I believe TVB will air this in Hong Kong, but not 100% sure. The poster looks like a drawing, which is very special to see. Also, I want to keep praising about the font, it's just great!
Pictures of the Month - Feb 06
Gosh, I haven't do "picture of the month" thing for ages, maybe I couldn't find any great images to share, so I felt bad. Anyways, I was browsing through some forums, and found these awesome pictures of Bernice, and I realized I haven't feature Bernice too much @ the blog, so here I am, uploading 2 pictures of the month for your viewing pleasure.
